Renew Revitalize Reimagine
9th Street Park
9th Street Park is situated on the Auraria campus. The objective of this project is to give 9th Street Park a new image. By implementing an Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) system and a new branding solution, we have revitalized the park, reintroducing its historical narrative and incorporating a modern, simpler brand for easy recognition.
This project underwent extensive ideation, with multiple sketches depicting various aspects and angles. Sketch-Up was utilized for one of the prototypes, while Illustrator was used for the other prototypes as well as the hero images.
This abstract brand holds significant meaning. The logo can be interpreted as either a sun or a flower, symbolizing the growth of this community and also the merging of diverse cultures that have been and continue to be part of this community.
In addition to this project, four placemaking wooden structures will be added, one for each narrative section. These include:
The entrance sign, providing a brief introduction to the park.
A totem depicting the early history of the Native Americans in this area of Auraria.
A carousel-like structure where people can sit and read about the history of the neighborhood and the individuals who lost their homes in order for the campus to be constructed.
Lastly, a mural located at the former auditorium , highlighting how the students of the Auraria Campus are now integral to this significant location.
